Representatives from Rutgers Health Outreach, Promotion, and Education (H.O.P.E) and the Rutgers University Police Department presented insightful information to parents on teaching safety strategies to college-bound students. The focus was drugs, alcohol, and safety on college campuses but a wide-variety of topics were discussed. Local attorney David Sachs was on-hand to provide a legal perspective. The event was sponsored by the Metuchen HS PTO, Metuchen Municipal Alliance, and Metuchen HS Project Graduation. The presenters graciously shared their working PowerPoint presentation so that those unable to attend could get some of the knowledge shared. Thanks to all who participated. Over the course of the past year, Metuchen High School has been providing information concerning opioid/drug prevention. The attached letter describes programs that have been provided to MHS students during the course of the 18-19 school year.
As you may know, the Metuchen School District partners with Wellspring Prevention, Inc. in our effort to understand and prevent drug use. Wellspring is committed to promoting the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities through the prevention of addiction-related problems across the lifespan. So are we. In the Fall of 2018, the high school participated in a county-wide alcohol/drug survey administered by Wellspring Prevention, Inc. of East Brunswick. We have an opportunity to increase our participation in this survey. We need your signed permission to allow your child to take part in this project. Please print, sign and return the attached letter/permission slip to MHS (Main Office) by May 17, 2019. All survey responses are anonymous. The letter in Spanish follows this post.

Please contact Mrs. Judi Cheung, District Student Assistance Coordinator, if you have any questions- 732-321-8744, x 5028.
